Want a Flatter Tummy? Eat Breakfast
It's officially swimsuit season, but not everyone is completely thrilled with their "beach body". If you're in this group, your first thought may be to eat less.
Weight loss is dependent on restricting caloric intake, but making the wrong decisions on how to cut back can actually cause you to put on weight. Breakfast, in particular, should not be a meal that you skip.
When you wake up in the morning, your body is drained of energy from not being fed all night and therefore needs calories. Skipping breakfast will leave you with less energy throughout the day. As a consequence, your body will send out signals to eat more in an effort to energize itself. As a result, your hunger cravings become more intense and your diet becomes harder to stick to.
If you eat breakfast, however, you will give your body calories right when it needs it. As a result, you'll have fewer cravings throughout the day. Plus, since you will be up and moving around, you'll be able to digest your food more quickly - as opposed to sitting around and watching TV after dinner.
What to eat depends on preference. A bowl of low sugar cereal, such as Special K or Cheerios, is a decent bet. So is yogurt (we eat a cup of Stoneyfield organic yogurt every morning) or fruit. Smoothies are an option for someone on the go, though pay attention to both the calories and the sugar content - especially at places like Jamba Juice.
If you want to lose more than just a few pounds, we suggest joining Weight Watchers®. We regularly suggest Weight Watchers because it is very flexible, easy to follow and, most importantly, healthy.
