Can't Sleep? Try Changing Your Fitness Regime
Millions of Americans suffer from sleep disorders. The causes can be complex, but changes to daily routines can help.
If you have problems sleeping, altering your fitness regime may make some difference. Here are some suggestions:
- Exercise daily, if possible. Even if its just 15 minutes of light walking, it will help.
- Switch your workouts to the morning or lunchtime hours. Exercise can energize you, making sleep more difficult.
- If you can only workout in the evening, eat a light dinner and don't watch television. Engaging in a relaxing activity, such as reading, will calm your mind and get you relaxed.
- Try meditation and light yoga right before bed. Activities that are centered on relaxation and controlled breathing will get you relaxed. For those of you who practice yoga, child's pose and thread the needle are good. Do not engage in sun salutations - these are energizing poses.
