Catch The Tour de France On Saturday Morning
Even if you’ve never seen a cycling race in your life, make sure to turn on OLN or get the live audio feed from Eurosport.com on Saturday morning. The Tour de France will be decided and, if you haven’t been paying attention, the race is wide-open thanks to Pennsylvania’s Floyd Landis.
Although Floyd Landis lacks the celebrity appeal of Lance Armstrong, he single-handedly turned this year’s Tour de France into one of the best races in history.
Down and declared out after completely falling apart in Wednesday’s brutal mountain stage, Landis did the only thing he could on Thursday, ride away from the main pack (aka the peleton) and won the day’s stage in convincing fashion. Landis’ margin of victory was so big, that he propelled himself back from the abyss to third place – just 30 seconds back.
However, Landis is not the only story. The top four riders are within two minutes of each other. Saturday’s stage is a time trial, which means each rider leaves the start separately and the one with the fastest time over the course wins (as opposed to a group start where the first one over the finish line wins). A margin of two minutes is not significant in a time trial and can easily be wiped out by either sheer speed, a flat tire or a crash. Even weather can play a role – the timing of a storm can literally mean dry roads for one cyclist and wet, slippery roads for the next.
In short, it’s anybody’s race and as lovers of sports, we are thrilled.
Go Floyd!
