NutriSystem announced the resignation of President and COO George Jankovic late on Monday. The news was a complete surprise and Wall Street reacted by sending shares of the weight loss company down materially this week.

Jankovic issued a brief statement stating that he has "serious family issues" that have gotten "substantially worse recently". Reports state that he has family members with health problems.

Jankovic is credited for making NTRI a successful organization and investors appear to be concerned about how the company will be run in his absence. We don't know enough about the company to speak with any certainty, but we would be surprised if people participating in NutriSystem's diet programs saw much change over the short-term.
