Summer Festivals and Calories

Over the weekend, we went to a local summer festival. The music was good, but the food was….well, let’s simply say that it high calorie.

We love summer festivals. But, the food served at most festivals is just not healthy. Most often what is served is high in fat and calories. This creates a dilemma, how do you enjoy a summer festival and not wreck your diet?

There is no single solution. Bringing your own food is a great option and cold fruit tastes really good on hot days like yesterday. However, if you’re planning on walking around, carrying a cooler may not be feasible. Eating before going to a festival helps, but again, this isn't always a viable option either.

Sometimes the onlything one can do is to make the best choice of what is offered. Go for grilled foods over fried or battered. Order in small amounts and share. And, most importantly, just plan on getting more exercise and less calories in the days before or after the summer fun. (We ate a salad for lunch and a Lean Cuisine for dinner yesterday.)

Remember, the goal behind fitness is to enjoy life more. So go to the summer festivals and have a good time. Just don’t forget the sunblock!
