Even Being Slightly Overweight Can Cause Premature Death

A new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine states that even being just 10 pounds overweight greatly raises the risk of premature death for those age 50 or higher. The study looked at more than 10,000 AARP members. (A corresponding commentary was also published.)

The implications of the study are simple: cut caloric intake and exercise more.

And instead of saying that you will do something tomorrow, start today. Eat banana instead of a cookie for a snack. Grab a coworker and go for walk during lunch – even it if is just walking around the parking lot. Go home and throw out all of the candy and ice cream that is in your house. Join Weight Watchers®.

And, most importantly, size down that café latte at Starbucks and ask for non-fat milk!
