A Exercise Pill? We're Skeptical
Salk Institute scientist Ronald Evans claims to have discovered the ability to chemically switch on PPAR-d, which he describes as the master regulator of fat metabolism.
In studies with mice, he claims he altered the genetic code, resulting in increased endurance. In adult mice, however, he claims a pill based on his findings helped the mice to burn more fat and resist weight gain - two benefits of exercise.
NetSweat.com Comments - There is absolutely no proof that this is a miracle drug or if it is even safe, for that matter. From what we can tell, the study was not published in a major, peer-reviewed medical journal. No studies have been done on humans and we do not know how large a sample of mice were even tested. Furthermore, even if it proves to work on mice, nobody knows what effect - or adverse reaction - this will have on humans.
Not to burst anyone's bubble, especially on a Monday, but there is still no such thing as an exercise pill.
