Keep Your Skin Healthy Skin Too
Care to know how sun savvy you are? Take the American Academy of Dermatology's Sun Smart Survey.
The reason why we mention this survey on our fitness blog is that a large percentage of people are very diligent about exercise and diet, but do very little to protect their skin. No matter how well a person takes care of himself, a fitness regime cannot prevent skin cancer.
This is why it is so important to put on sunblock before venturing outside. No amount of exercise can compensate for the damaging effects of sun exposure. However, a few minutes of applying a sunblock can keep you looking good for years to come. (And we know that you want great skin to go with that great body you've been working so hard on.)
Look for sunblocks that offer both UVA and UVB protection. An aerosol spray might make for a quicker application, though if you are going to be out cycling, you don't want to be carrying any can of aerosol spray. Rather, a small bottle of lotion would be a better choice. And remember to reapply every hour if you're being active (or every two hours if you are hanging out poolside).
And of course, you want SPF 30 or higher.
