Exercise Can Prevent Bone Fractures In Men

It has been well documented that regular exercise can help prevent osteoporosis in women, but now researchers believe that regular exercise can prevent bone fractures in older men.

After surveying more than 2000 men staring in the early 1970s and following up at routine intervals afterwards , Swedish researchers concluded:
Over the 35 years, 428 men had at least one fracture and 134 broke a hip, but there were big differences between the groups--20% of the low-activity men had fractures, compared with 13% of those with medium activity and only 8% of those in the high-activity group. In particular, the chance of having a hip fracture was reduced by increased activity.

A press release about the study can be found on Science Daily.com.

NetSweat.com Comments: Although we should not be surprised by this study, we still find ourselves saying "wow"! This is a powerful study and provides clear evidence that both men and women need to make exercise a regular part of their lifestyles.
