Exercising After Eating Can Aid Weight Loss

Researchers at Surrey University and Imperial College London believe there is a benefit to exercising after eating. Study participants who cycled for an hour at 65% of max heart rate for an hour after eating lost more weight than those who didn't exercise after the meal. (There was an hour lapse between eating and exercise). The weight loss occurred even if those who exercised more ate more.

The study was published in the Journal of Endocrinology (abstract free; subscription required for full study). The BBC also has a full article about the study.

NetSweat.com Comments: We have heard that light activity after eating a meal can aid digestion, but this is the first study we have seen of this type. Whether there is a really a link between the timing of meals and the timing of exercise will require a considerably bigger study group, but this is an interesting look into the possibility of such a link.
