Smaller Plates Mean Less Drugs For Diabetics
It has been well known that there is a direct correlation between portion size and weight. Smaller portions mean less weight gain. Bigger portions mean more weight gain. Plate size can play a definitive role. A smaller plate that is filled up will leave a person filling more full than a bigger plate that is half empty. A psychological trick? Yes, but it works.
So when the Archives of Internal Medicine published a study about plate size, we kind of yawned. But then we read the study and found something interesting, smaller plates allowed diabetics to "decrease their hypoglycemic medications". In other words, if you are diabetic and you start using a smaller plate, you will improve your odds of having to take less medicine.
Even if you are not diabetic, switching to smaller plates and bowls, will improve your health. Within a week, you won't notice the fact that you're eating less, but your body will start to look better. Obviously, if you are already in shape, make sure that you maintain a proper amount of caloric intake, which for some of you mean a bigger plate. :)
