Flip-Flop Injuries Soaring
The popularity of flip-flops has led to what some doctors are calling flip-flop foot, according to an article in today's Chicago Tribune. Representatives from both the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society and the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) say that flip-flop related injuries are soaring.
In a press release, the APMA warns “Flip-flops offer little in terms of arch support, foot protection and shock absorption. Tendinitis, arch-pain and sprained ankles are just some of the problems flip-flops can cause...Simply put, flip-flops just aren’t good for your feet.”

Among the shoes that the APMA recommends are the Chaco Flip (shown on the right) and the Dansko Golden Gate.
We should also add the APMA has a large amount of advice about foot care, including exercises for those wearing fashionable footwear and pedicures, on their web site.
