Diets - Which One Works Best?

Which diet works best: low carb, low fat or high protein? It turns out that the answer whatever diet helps you eat fewer calories.

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that the type of diet does not matter.

After following 811 adults for 2 years, researchers concluded, "Reduced-calorie diets result in clinically meaningful weight loss regardless of which macronutrients they emphasize". The macronutrients included varying levels of protein, carbohydrates and fat.

Some other interesting findings were
  • Many participants had trouble sticking to their nutrition plan, especially after the first few months
  • Attending support groups helped weight loss (we like Weight Watchers®)
  • "Conformity to cultural norms, scientific novelty, and media attention" played a role in the success of a diet.

Good post. A healthy lifestyle and good eating habits are the key to weight loss. I definitely see having a support group helping out too. It's nice to have a network of people to rally around you.
